There is a huge myth or misconception that homosexuality was introduced to Africans by Europeans. Most people would assume homosexuality wouldn’t derive from Africa because of all its brutal hateful policies and laws towards same-sex partners.
Uganda, located in Eastern Africa, has anti-gay laws being brutally enforced. There is the “Kill the Gays Bill” in Uganda. Former ruler of Gambia Jammeh who ruled the country since 1994, said he would slit gay throats in public and no one could do anything about it.
Homosexuality in Africa
Gay African men and women are killed, raped, and savagely beaten due to their sexual orientation every day. They are not being punished for causing someone harm or death but instead are being penalized for being involved with the same-sex. Gay people all over the world are prosecuted for being gay and sharing their lives with another person of the same gender. Africans or Black people often say being gay is a “European” thing brought by them during colonization.
However, if Africa is the motherland and black people were the first people on earth, wouldn’t everything in nature come from the African black seed whether good, bad or neutral? An article found on the Guardian.com published on 09/15 by Bisi Alimi, a member of the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria and Gay rights activist, Bisi Alimi was asked to teach pre and post-colonial sexual orientation and sexual identity in Africa at the Berlin Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.
He writes: “As I dug deep, I realized that African culture is no stranger to homosexual behaviors and acts”. He stated “I knew I had a huge task before me. I had to teach students about a history that is mostly unwritten”. Upon his research, he found there were old words for anal sex for men and old Nigerian words for feminine men.
Christianity in Africa
Furthermore, he also discovered that Christianity was brought to Africans and black people alike. They were introduced to the Bible and many converted to following Christian teachings, including taking on the belief that homosexuality was unnatural, therefore, was a sin in the eyes of the church and God. Christianity was the colonizer’s religion, not indigenous African tribes or any indigenous tribe for that matter.
Field Zoologist concentrated on heterosexual animals while choosing to ignore homosexual ones. Sex has one purpose; reproduction. From octopus, dolphins to deer, elephants, sears, flies. ruled mountain Western scientist, Noah arks – one female one male. 1892 studies on elephants reported that they are committing crimes prohibited by the rules of Christianity.
In Africa, due to the negative perception of being gay, there have been African leaders who have passed suppressive laws against the African LGBT community. Prior to colonization, Africans had many different practices, rituals, and religions. There was no blunt hate aiming directly at gay people in pre-colonial Africa. Furthermore, Being gay was not exploited as it is today. Media; the news, movies, records, rap songs, magazines, and newspapers have all and continue to exploit gay men and women.
The Bible and Abominations
The Bible has made the biggest impact on how society views homosexuality. Christianity is the main component as to why being homosexual is an abomination. Leviticus 18:22 in the Bible states a man lying with another man is an abomination. Leviticus also has a long list of other abominations that people still do to this very day, without being prosecuted for it.
For example, eating shellfish, fat or blood, letting hair become messy, tearing your clothes, going to church after 33 days of giving birth to a boy, going to church after 66 days of giving birth to a boy, getting a tattoo, trimming a beard, and working on Sabbath; are just a few things Leviticus states is wrong but people don’t have such hate for these actions as they have the hatred toward same-sex relationships.
Small minded people say “We are not animals”. Are you sure about that statement, I ask? Animals were here prior to human existence. Everything that exists in nature exists in human nature rather you deem it bad or good. Personally, if you ask me human beings are the most sadistic animal in nature. Humans rape the earth and enslave animals and take them from their natural habitat. People rape and suppress the child bearers of the earth we call women. Homo sapiens molest, abuse and rape kids. People enslave each other, judge each other, murder, kill, and abuse one another. Human beings are the most violent in nature! But somehow loving someone of the same gender is the worst thing on earth.
Apes and Humans
Chimpanzees are closely related to humans. The Bonobos chimpanzees are a happy sexual group of apes. They are bi-sexual apes. They have sex with each other rather it’s a young, female or male apes. Also, the female Bonobos even form female alliances to form power in their tribes. Beyond the Bonobos apes, you have several hundreds of other animals that have same-gender relationships or sex.
Lastly, being gay, lesbian or homosexual is a natural human behavior because it’s in nature. You can’t argue with nature.
